Melissa, my love.

-How is she?, asked Rob.
- Not very well my dear friend, she is about to die, answered the doctor.
At the same time the doctor left the house, Rob sat down into the
living room and had a look to some pictures, memories he had of
Melissa, his beloved and beautiful Melissa, in her last days now.
Melissa was not an ordinary girl you find by chance around the corner.
She had the most beautiful blue eyes anyone could have and her smile,
those white pearls, was simply stunning.
Rob remembered that he hadn´t fallen in love with Melissa because of her
beauty but for her funny conversations they both used to have along
the park about politics, life and all those kinds of things lovers often
talk about. Was he going to get used to living without her?, he
wondered. Absolutly not!.
What would have happened if he hadn´t met her?. Who knows….
According to the newspaper, a war was about to begin
against China, Russia, Korea and the Middle-East countries.
No human being could be suppossed to get alive of that, taking into
account that the nuclear weapons where quite sofisticated in those
days. This is 2025 and Rob had met Melissa in New York, where they live
Sitting there, Rob could hear the air raids from the distance. That
gave the house an atmosphere of hopeless.
Suddenly,he went upstairs towards the room where Melissa was and
held her hand. He smiled and then the room turned into darkness and
somehow, Rob found that he was still holding Melissa´s hand and
nothing in the world would have persuaded him to let it go.

The woman of the train

Santiago was sure she was the woman he had seen the day before. Same perfume, same dress and he could never forget those breasts. He thought he was going to faint but apart from that, those feelings were the ones he used to call “my animal instincts”, you know, Tarzan meets Jane. The train was about to leave.
It was early in the morning and the whistle announced the passengers that the train had started to move. There they were. One in front of each other. Nobody else in the compartment but a man and a woman, an ancient story.
-Do you mind if I smoke?, she asked.
-No, not at all, Santiago said.
-Oh sorry!, and he offered her a light.
Santiago had met many women in his life, but none of them were so interesting as that one. A woman of her kind should be in a museum. Her eyes were blue as an Ocean, fixed on the horizon, but her gaze was colder than ice, a real mystery taking into account that she looked very secure of herself.
All of a sudden, the long distance noise of some planes could be heard and then the bombs falling over their heads with a number of explosions. They were unsafe on that train. It was the perfect target.
At that moment, Santiago felt that their lives had joined for an instance. We all know that when you live a terrible experience with somebody, both souls keep fixed together forever. Surprisingly, the woman went close towards Santiago and gave him a big hug. They didn´t get out of the train like most people did, otherwise, they would have been killed by the submachine guns of the enemy planes. On the contrary, they made love.
“I feel like if I knew you”, she said.
Santiago felt unconscious, not because of her but because of the shock wave.
Where was that train going to?. Who knows... Not even Santiago, who suffered from amnesia for the days to come.
Actually, here I am at the hospital, where I am writing what you are reading, trying to get my memory back. The only thing I know is that my name is Santiago, according to the white bracelet I have in my right arm. I fall asleep thinking of her. They say it is 1945 and an armistice has taken place at last.
